  • This is the last week to sign up for Broadway Optimist baseball/softball. There are programs for kids from ages 3.5 to 16. To register, stop by the Lett Family Ballpark (6:30-7:30pm) or Broadway Hardware. Registration is $40.
  • Heads up, local parents -- a new playgroup will start meeting on the first and third Tuesdays at Kiwanis Children’s Parkplace starting on September 4. Contact ksbarryfamily1@gmail.com for more information.
  • Don’t forget -- the Moore County Fair is going on through Saturday at the fairgrounds in Carthage. Admission is $5 for everyone over age 3 and parking is $2. Gates open at 5pm and close at 11pm except for Saturday (open at 3pm).

  • It’s Function in the Junction night in Depot Park. Tim Hair and the AKM Band will take the stage at 7pm. They’ll be offering lots of giveaways for those in attendance, so make sure you get down there!

  • Tramway Fire Department is offering a concealed permit class this Saturday for $50. To attend, you need to bring a handgun, ammunition, safety glasses, ear plugs, and a ball camp. Contact Matt at 919-770-0111 by tomorrow to register.
  • Don’t forget -- Champions Car Wash is offering free Ultimate Express washes all week! Make sure to donate to their orphan fund while you’re there.
  • Tomorrow is Third Thursday in downtown Sanford. Make plans to shop for great deals and discounts -- and then hang out in the park to hear RN5P perform (7pm). It’s gonna be a great night!

  • Go meet the Cavs tomorrow night at Cavalier Stadium (6pm, Southern Lee High School). There will be hot dogs and drinks available for purchase along with free lemonade and donuts. This is for the fall sports programs.
  • Learn to knit tonight at Find X Designs (6-8pm)! For $40, you’ll learn to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off. They’ll also discuss tools and yarn. Registration is limited!
