    What: Meet Valerie Simpson, author of ‘A Resume of a Desperate Woman, and Other Writings.” Simpson will read an excerpt from the book and be available afterward for questions and book signings.

  • Parkinson’s Disease Support Group at the Lee County Enrichment Center, 1615 S. Third St, Sanford NC

    What: This group is for patients and their caregivers. All are welcome. The group meets on the third Wednesday of each month.
  • Joint Pain Seminar at Central Carolina Hospital, 1135 Carthage St, Sanford NC

    What: Learn more about joint pain and joint replacement surgery. Professional golfer Fred Funk will be the guest speaker. Call 888-787-9537 to register.
  • Trivia Night at Libations, 139 Chatham St, Sanford NC

    What: Libations hosts a trivia night every other Wednesday. The winning team will get $50 towards their bar tab.

  • Thursday Hike at Raven Rock State Park, 3009 Raven Rock Rd, Lillington NC

    What: Join park staff every week to hike 3-6 miles on trails that can be flat, hilly and include steps. Plan to stop during the hike to observe wildlife, enjoy environmental educational moments, and listen to the natural world. For ages 12 and up.   • Story Time at the Lee County Library, 107 Hawkins Ave, Sanford NC

    What: Librarians Delisa and Sheneeta will offer stories, crafts, and games for preschoolers. The Sanford Fire Department will be onhand to talk about fire safety.
  • German Speakers Group at Elizabeth’s Pizza, 1009 Spring Ln (Riverbirch), Sanford NC

  • Lights of Halloween at Broken Plow Farm, 1851 Avents Ferry Rd, Sanford NC

    What: The farm will offer a 30-minute hay ride with lighted displayed and a special light show at the end. Tickets are $9 for ages 2+. Cash only.
  • Shaggers’ Social at the VFW, 1500 Webb St, Sanford NC

    What: The Sanford Area Society of Shaggers (SASS) will hold their monthly social. The event will feature DJ Kitty Earles.
  • ‘The Cost of Living’ at the ArtStudio, 102 S. Steele St, Sanford NC

    What: The Cost of Living is a one-act play based on letters and interviews with 25 Anchorage, AK breast cancer survivors. Tickets are $25 each and all proceeds from the event will be shared between Central Carolina Hospital Auxiliary Cancer Care Fund and the Lee County Highway To Healing Fund.
