Weekend Roundup, April 21-23


The Downtown StreetFest & Fireworks event is this Saturday in downtown Sanford! Food trucks, a craft beer tent, live music, a kids’ zone, yoga, cornhole, demos … come celebrate all we’ve accomplished. The event is rain or shine. However, in case of inclement weather, the fireworks portion will happen on Sunday evening.

  • Holocaust Remembrance at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center, 1801 Nash St, Sanford NC
    What: Dr. Debbie Long, the daughter of two survivors, will be the guest speaker courtesy of The Center for Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Education of NC. Additionally, the Center’s founder and director, Sharon Halperin, will be part of the program.
  • Don Schlitz at Venue 121, 121 Chatham St, Sanford NC
    When: 6p
    What: Dinner will be served at 6:30p and the music will begin at 8p. Tickets are $50.
  • Party at the Park at Grace Chapel, 2605 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Sanford NC
    When: 6-8:30p
    What: A night of food, fun, and music that includes a climbing obstacle course, jousting competition, inflatables, and more.
  • SASS Social at the VFW, 1500 Webb St, Sanford NC
    When: 7-10p
    What: The Sanford Area Society of Shaggers (SASS) will hold their monthly social. Newcomers are welcome. Music will be provided by DJ Kitty Earles.


  • Bee Day at Gross Farms, 1606 Pickett Rd, Sanford NC

    What: Learn all about bees and their importance to growing strawberries.
  • Kids Club at Chick-Fil-A, 3224 NC Hwy 87 S, Sanford NC

    What: Celebrate Earth Day with a fun craft and special dessert.
  • Art in the Alley in downtown Sanford NC
    When: 10a-2p
    What: Downtown Sanford will showcase local artists along Charlie Watson Lane (the alley between A Few Nice Things, Inc and One On One Fitness Studio on Steele St). There will be live demos and activities.
  • Touch-a-Truck at the CCCC Emergency Services Training Center, 3000 Airport Blvd, Sanford NC
    When: 10a-2p
    What: CCCC invites children of all ages for a hands-on opportunity where they can enjoy, explore, see and touch trucks, and other vehicles up close and play in the Kids Zone. Admission is $5. Children ages 2 and under are admitted free.
  • Afternoon Retreat at House in the Horseshoe, 288 Alston House Rd, Sanford NC
    When: 11a-4p
    What: 19th century duels, pony rides, historical re-enactors, period music by Ken Bloom, lectures, games, and crafts. A food truck will be on site all day.
  • Celebration of the Military Child at the Village Arboretum, 395 Magnolia Rd, Pinehurst NC
    When: 12-3p
    What: The event offers a free cookout and entertainment, including pony rides, a video game trailer, a bounce house, lawn games, and a strolling magician. This event is free and is open to everyone.
  • Cornhole Tournament in Depot Park, 106 Charlotte Ave, Sanford NC
    When: 2-4p
    What: Teams of two can compete for prizes. Entry is $10 per team. Bear Creek Brewing Company will provide adult beverages for players and spectators.
  • Downtown StreetFest & Fireworks in downtown Sanford
    When: 4:15-8:45p
    What: Celebrate downtown Sanford with a salsa street party, live music, food trucks, a kids zone, a martial arts demo, and activities throughout downtown. Bring the family for an evening of family fun in YOUR downtown!


  • Grand Opening of Marco’s Pizza, 3058 S. Horner Blvd, Sanford NC
    When: 1-4p
    What: The eatery will offer free pizza with entertainment, face painting, and contests.
  • Community Day at Depot Park, 106 Charlotte Ave, Sanford NC
    What: St Luke UMC will offer live music, free ice cream sundaes, and kids activities.
