Congratulations to all the graduates of the Class of 2017, and to all the local kids who have finished out another school year. This weekend is surprisingly low key, so take a few days to relax and enjoy the beginning of summer!

    What: Meet local author and former community school administrator Kimberly McLean. Hear the story of how she overcame stage 4 cancer.

Saturday

  • Adoption Event At Petco, 3070 S. Horner Blvd, Sanford NC
    When: 12-3p
    What: Meet adoptable animals. The event is hosted by Animal Life Rescue.
  • Boat Rentals at San Lee Park, 572 Pumping Station Rd, Sanford NC
    When:
    1-6p
    What: You can rent canoes and paddle boats for $3/paddle boat and $5/canoe for each half hour. Rentals are only open on weekends.
  • Gather & Flourish: The Market, 346 HM Cagle Dr, Cameron NC
    When: 5-8p
    What: The market features local produce, photography, jewelry, clothing, food and more.

Sunday

  • Slow Down Sunday at New Hope Valley Railway, 3900 Bonsal Rd, New Hill NC
    When:

    What: Unplug with a scenic train ride. Tickets cost $10/adults, $9/seniors (ages 60+) and $7/children (ages 2-12, under 2 is free). Trains depart at 11a, 12:30p, and 2p. Chef’s House will be onsite for those who want to purchase lunch.
