  • Book Sale at the Lee County Library, 107 Hawkins Ave, Sanford NC
    When: 9a-5p
    What: The Friends of the Library are sponsoring their annual three book sale. Hardback books are $2 and trade paperbacks are $1.
  • Fountain at Depot Park, 106 Charlotte Ave, Sanford NC
    When:
    10a, 12p, 2p, and 4p
    What: The fountain runs from May 11 to October 31. During that period, it will operate for an hour at a time at 10a, 12p, 2p, and 4p each day.
  • Auction at S & L Bargain Depot, 1000 N. Horner Blvd, Sanford NC
    When:
    6p
    What: Overstock and mis-shipped items will be auctioned to the highest bidder. There will be free popcorn until the auction starts at 6:30p.
  • Movie in the Pines at Downtown Park, 145 SE Broad St., Southern Pines NC
    When: 7-10p
    What: The Southern Pines Recreation Department will show “Angry Birds.” Kona Ice and SoPies will be set up for concessions. Rain date is October 7.

Saturday

  • Harvest Sale at Center United Methodist Church, 4141 S Plank Rd, Sanford NC
    When: 8a-7p
    What: The church will sell chicken stew and barbecue for $8 per plate. Take out is available. Lunch will run from 11a-1p and dinner will be 5-7p. Homemade jams, pickles, crafts, and baked goods for sale starting at 8a. An auction will begin at 1:30p.
  • Junior Jacket Cheer Day at Lee County High School, 1708 Nash St, Sanford NC
    When: 9:30a-12:30p
    What: Potential cheerleaders ages 3-13 can participate in a cheerleading clinic for $25. They will then perform what they’ve learned at the Yellow Jackets game on 9/30 during halftime. Email Jerica Morgan for more information.

  • Hart’s Pumpkin Festival, 885 Meronies Church Rd, Bear Creek NC
    When: 10a-5p
    What: The annual festival features food, kids activities, a tractor and machinery show, live gospel and bluegrass music, and more. Admission is $6 for ages 5+. Parking is free.
  • Zumba at Sanford Latin Dance, 109 S Steele St, Sanford NC
    When:
    11a-12p
    What: All are welcome. The cost is $5 per person.
  • Harvest Festival and Auction at Barbecue Presbyterian Church, 124 Barbecue Church Rd, Sanford NC
    When: 11a-7p
    What: The church’s youth group will sell hot dogs from 11a-2p. From 4-7p, the church will sell dinner plates of barbecue pork or chicken stew with dessert for $8. Call 919-499-5211 for more information.
  • Bigfoot Festival at Camelback Bridge in Deep River Park, 2989-3079 State Rd 2145, Bear Creek NC
    When: 4-9p
    What: Hear from cryptozoologists about sightings and evidence in our area. Compete for hairiest man, best beard, and biggest foot while you’re there. Admission is $5. Children under 12 are admitted free.

    What: First Presbyterian Church invites the public for Church at the Park with a catered lunch by Smithfield’s BBQ. The cost is $10/person or $20/family.
  • Fundraiser at The Fearrington Barn, 2000 Fearrington Village Ctr, Pittsboro NC
    When: 10a
    What: Gloria Steinem and McIntyre’s Books will host this fundraiser for Chatham County Family Violence and Rape Crisis Services. Doors open at 10a. Seating is limited. All details here.
  • Homecoming at Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church, 316 W Main St, Sanford NC
    When: 11a
    What: Dr. Kevin Meadows, senior pastor from 1997-2001, will be the guest preacher. The Taylors will stage a concert at 1:30pn the Sanctuary. The concert is free and open to the public.

    What: Food trucks, live music, a tour of the gardens, cheese tastings, and more. Wool, yarn, fleece and artisan cheese will be available for purchase. Admission is free. No pets. Rain or shine.
